Code of Conduct
Green Corn Project has been focused on our mission of bringing the benefits of organic gardening to Central Texans since we started in 1998. During that time, we have been committed to fostering an inclusive, safe, and fun gardening community where individuals from all backgrounds, beliefs and identities who want to join us in our mission are welcomed and respected. We believe that gardening is a universal language that transcends politics and religion, and that working side by side in the soil offers an opportunity to leave our differences behind and appreciate what we have in common, which is a love of gardening and a desire to give back to our community.
We want everyone to feel that the garden is a safe and comfortable place to be, and we ask that everyone remain aware of considerate, common-sense communication by adhering to the following code of conduct:
HARASSMENT
Any inappropriate behavior, harassment or marginalization against any of our volunteers, staff, or garden recipients is not tolerated. This includes any discussion, consumption of media, or attire relating to sensitive topics that may make others uncomfortable. Such topics include but are not limited to politics, social issues, religion or a person’s physical appearance. Clothing specified by religious and ethnic beliefs is welcome.
CARPOOLING
Carpooling to a garden site is sometimes necessary and often convenient; however, when carpooling with unfamiliar volunteers, there must be at least 3 people in a car.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Any volunteer experiencing harassment or feeling uncomfortable through any behaviors or comments of participants, staff, or other volunteers should speak to a GCP representative, including a board member or Dig-in leader, immediately. At the discretion of Green Corn Project, anyone not upholding these policies will be either asked to correct the behavior, or asked to arrange transportation and leave immediately and be barred from volunteering with Green Corn Project in the future. Any kind of violence or threat of violence will be reported to the police.
