Dig-in Leader Training
Dig-in Leaders are Green Corn Project’s most valuable resource! The more Dig-in Leaders we have, the more people we can help. We are always on the lookout for volunteers willing to take the next step and become Dig-in Leaders.
2022 Spring Dig-in Leader Training:
Join us for this season’s Dig-in Leader training on Saturday, February 19th from 9:00 am to 12:30 p.m:
What’s Involved in Dig-in Leader Training?
The training covers all aspects of being a Dig-in Leader, from garden preparation and planting techniques to efficient management of volunteer groups. No prior gardening experience is necessary. After the training, new Dig-in Leaders will get hands-on training shadowing experienced Dig-in Leaders during regularly scheduled Dig-ins. Dig-in Leaders are encouraged to lead Dig-in teams on at least one but preferably two days each fall and spring. Of course, those wishing to lead more teams each season are welcome to do so!
What you need to bring:
As for all Dig-ins, please bring sun protection, shoes with sturdy soles (digging in flip flops is no fun), water, gardening gloves if you use them, and snacks or lunch if you want them. We will provide all the necessary tools and instruction; you do not need any prior training.
Concerns about COVID in the Austin area have increased because of rising infections and hospitalizations, primarily among unvaccinated individuals. Green Corn Project’s guidelines for volunteer activities are based on the City of Austin’s recommended practices.
- Fully vaccinated individuals should wear a mask when participating in indoor private gatherings, and they should wear a mask for outdoor gatherings if they are unable to socially distance.
- Partially or unvaccinated individuals should not volunteer for Green Corn Project activities at this time. The City of Austin has advised that partially or unvaccinated individuals should avoid private gatherings unless they are essential. Our gardening projects, while important, are not essential.
In case of bad weather:
Please be sure to check the website and your e-mail both the night before and the morning of the training as it is possible that we may need to reschedule due to weather or ground conditions.
