Dig-in Leader Training

Dig-in leaders are Green Corn Project’s most valuable resource! The more Dig-in Leaders we have, the more people we can help. We are always on the lookout for volunteers willing to take the next step and become Dig-in Leaders. You don’t need gardening experience and after completing the training, you can co-lead with an experienced Dig-in leader until you feel ready to lead a team yourself.

The date for our 2025 spring Dig-in Leader Training is set – mark your calendars and check back for the registration link. If you can’t make the training and are insterested in becoming a Dig-in Leader, sign up for a Dig-in and let us know.

2025 Spring Dig-in Leader Training

Saturday, March 1st from 9 to 11:30 – Check back for Registration

What’s Involved in Dig-in Leader Training?

The training covers all aspects of being a Dig-in Leader, from garden preparation and planting techniques to efficient management of volunteer groups. No prior gardening experience is necessary. Once you’ve completed the training, new Dig-in Leaders are encouraged to register for at least one Dig-in for the current season giving you the opportunity to gain hands-on experience accompanying an experienced Dig-in leader.

What you need to bring:

As for all Dig-ins, please bring sun protection, closed toed shoes (digging in flip flops is no fun), water, gardening gloves if you use them, and snacks or lunch if you want them. We will provide all the necessary tools and instruction; you do not need any prior training.

In case of bad weather:

Please be sure to check the website and your e-mail both the night before and the morning of the training as it is possible that we may need to reschedule due to weather or ground conditions.
