Volunteer
Green Corn Project is a volunteer-driven organization. We address issues of food security in Central Texas by building organic vegetable gardens at homes, schools, and community centers. During Dig-In events held each spring and fall, more than 100 volunteers work together with a trained Dig-In Leader and garden recipients to build these gardens.
GCP would love to have you join us as a volunteer!
We have ongoing opportunities for volunteer garden mentors, people willing to help water our vegetable garden on Lady Bird Lake, and volunteers interested in fundraising.
Our 2008 Fall Dig-Ins are shown below. On these days we will need folks to help as Dig-In volunteers and Dig-In Leaders. We offer free training for all volunteer positions. For Dig-In Leaders, we offer additional, free hands-on training in the biointensive method. The next DILIT (Dig-In Leaders In Training) session will be held on Sunday, September 14th.
On the Dig-In day, all volunteers will meet at 8:30 am at the GCP office at 1210 Rosewood Avenue. Volunteers will be assigned to teams and will carpool to the garden site. The Dig-In lasts until about 1 pm, which includes time for a lunch break. Please bring gloves and sunscreen.
