Dig-in Leaders are Green Corn Project’s most valuable resource! The more Dig-in Leaders we have, the more people we can help. We are always on the lookout for volunteers willing to take the next step and become Dig-in Leaders.
2021 Fall Dig-in Leader Training:
Since this year is a little different, we’re planning something a little different for our Dig-in Leader training. Instead of a separate workshop, we’re incorporating the training into our Dig-ins. If you’re interested in getting more involved with GPC and becoming a Dig-in Leader, simply sign-up for one or more Dig-ins and add a note when you register that you’re interested in becoming a Dig-in Leader. We’ll pair you with an experienced Dig-in Leader and give you all of the information you’ll need. Note that you can shadow a Dig-in Leader as many times as you like until you’re ready to lead a team yourself.
What’s Involved in Dig-in Leader Training?
The training covers all aspects of being a Dig-in Leader, from garden preparation and planting techniques to efficient management of volunteer groups. No prior gardening experience is necessary. After the training, new Dig-in Leaders will get hands-on training shadowing experienced Dig-in Leaders during regularly scheduled Dig-ins. Dig-in Leaders are encouraged to lead Dig-in teams on at least one but preferably two days each fall and spring. Of course, those wishing to lead more teams each season are welcome to do so!
What you need to bring:
As for all Dig-ins, please bring sun protection, shoes with sturdy soles (digging in flip flops is no fun), water, gardening gloves if you use them, and snacks or lunch if you want them. We will provide all the necessary tools and instruction; you do not need any prior training. Plan to stay till 1pm, although we may finish a little before then.
In case of bad weather:
Please be sure to check the website and your e-mail both the night before and the morning of the training as it is possible that we may need to reschedule due to weather or ground conditions.
