Dig-in Leaders are Green Corn Project’s most valuable resource! The more Dig-in Leaders we have, the more people we can help. We are always on the lookout for volunteers willing to take the next step and become Dig-in Leaders.
What is Dig-in Leader Training?
The training workshop will cover all aspects of being a Dig-in Leader, from garden preparation and planting techniques to efficient management of volunteer groups. No prior gardening experience is necessary. After the workshop, new dig-in leaders will get hands-on training shadowing experienced Dig-in Leaders during regularly scheduled Dig-ins. Dig-in Leaders are encouraged to lead Dig-in teams on at least one but preferably two days each fall and spring. Of course, those wishing to lead more teams each season are welcome to do so!
2021 Fall Dig-in Leader Training dates and registration:
The next dig-in leader training workshop will be 8:30 am to 1 pm on Saturday, Aug. 28. After you have registered, your attendance will be confirmed via email.
The workshop will be at The Training Kitchen, 1901 Matthews Lane. Look for the Green Corn Project sign on the tall chain link fence — this is where you enter the property. You can park on the side streets in the surrounding neighborhood.
What you need to bring:
Please bring sun protection, shoes with sturdy soles (digging in flip flops is no fun), water, gardening gloves if you use them, and snacks or lunch if you want them. We will provide all the necessary tools and instruction; you do not need any prior training. Plan to stay till 1pm, although we may finish a little before then.
In case of bad weather:
Please be sure to check the website and your e-mail both the night before and the morning of the training as it is possible that we may need to reschedule due to weather or ground conditions.
